Nonlinear Optimal-Based Vibration Control of a Wind Turbine Tower Using Hybrid vs. Magnetorheological Tuned Vibration Absorber

This paper presents an implementation of a nonlinear optimal-based wind turbine tower vibration control method. An NREL 5.0 MW tower-nacelle model equipped with hybrid tuned absorber (HTVA) is analysed against the magnetorheological TVA (MRTVA). For purposes, 3 kN active actuator in parallel passive used HTVA system, while MR damper built MRTVA instead viscous damper, as standard TVA. All force constraints are embedded implemented techniques. By employing Pontryagin maximum principle, optimal proposition was derived along its simplified revisions to avoid high computational load during real-time control. The advantage over attenuation evident within first bending frequency neighbourhood, also requiring less working space. Using appropriate optimisation fields enabled 8-fold reduction energy demand (further) 29% space maintaining significant obtained results encouraging for assumed mass ratio and limitations, proving effectiveness validity proposed approaches.
